May 10th Update

Happy Friday!

Information for the Rise & Shine conference is now LIVE on the website. You can check-out the bios of our amazing faculty, review the Breakout Sessions, and find more details about the Friday Mini-Intensives. As a reminder, registration will open on June 15th. Early-Bird pricing will run through July 15th.

For the conference, we are offering one Inclusivity Scholarship. This award is being given to encourage and nurture children’s book writers and illustrators from backgrounds that are underrepresented in the children’s publishing industry. INW SCBWI members and non-members that identify as a person of color, Native American, LGBTQIA, person with a disability, or are part of a marginalized religious or cultural minority are encouraged to apply. If you or someone you know could benefit from this scholarship, applications are being accepted May 10-July 1. For more details, visit the Inclusivity Scholarship page on our website.

This portfolio prep workshop is an informative, encouraging event for illustrators that want to put their best work forward at the Rise & Shine Conference. It will take place on Saturday, June 22ndat Spokane Art Supply. At our 2019 conference, faculty judges will select finalists and a “Best in Show” from all Portfolio Showcase entries. The winner will receive a video conference critique with Simon & Schuster Art Director, Laurent Linn! We’ll send a reminder to illustrators when registration opens in the coming weeks.

We are looking for newsletter contributors. Our next issue will be sent June 10. Do you have something to share? Would you like to interview a local member? Maybe you have a fun poem about summertime? Let me know at inlandnw@scbwi.org.
