Meet Laura Gale. Laurel will be moderating our Middle Grade Creative Conversations this year. Welcome, Laurel!
I am happy to be in the Inland Northwest region – although I don’t recommend moving in the middle of a pandemic! My husband and I moved from Vancouver, Washington, to Clarkston, Washington, over the summer because we wanted more nature and less traffic in our lives. So far, I’ve enjoyed watching the local wildlife, especially all the deer in the area, but I’m eager to meet other writers in the region.
I write middle grade novels and picture books. My debut novel, Dead Boy, was published by Crown Books for Young Readers in 2015. My most recent novel, Story Magic, just came out from Jolly Fish Press in October 2020.
I’m represented by Jennifer Wills at the Seymour Agency. I signed with her in early 2020, and she’s been fantastic. I’d been agented before, but I also represented myself for a while and made a couple of book deals that way.
Back in Vancouver, I was involved in the regional SCBWI chapter as well as a local group for writers of all genres and age groups. I’ve also led writing workshops. Writing can easily become a rather lonely activity, but networking with other writers is a great way to stay motivated and refine one’s craft. Reaching readers is important, too, and to do that, I’ve participated in school, library, and bookstore events.
I’m looking forward to meeting everyone in the Inland Northwest region. You can find me online at www.laurelgale.com and on Twitter at @laurel_gale.
