Her newest picture book biography, Pura’s Cuentos: How Pura Belpré Reshaped Libraries with her Stories, comes out September 2021. Her biographies All the Way to the Top: How One Girl’s Fight for Americans with Disabilities Changed Everything (Sourcebooks: 2020) and Girl Running (Penguin: 2018) were both Junior Library Guild Selections, and Girl Running was a Golden Kite Honor book. Mountain Chef: How One Man Lost His Groceries, Changed His Plans, and Helped Cook Up the National Park Service (Charlesbridge: 2016) won the National Council of Social Studies’ Carter G. Woodson Award. Her books have appeared on many states’ young readers’ award lists. She lives in Moscow, Idaho.

Her most recent novel, Story Magic, was published by Jolly Fish Press in October 2020. Laurel lives with her husband and their ferrets in Clarkston, Washington. In addition to writing, she enjoys hiking, photographing wildlife, playing board games, and reading. You can visit Laurel online at www.laurelgale.com or on Twitter at @laurel_gale.

Young Adult Moderator, Trace Kerr

Trace Kerr is a bisexual misfit mom of two who writes action packed magical stories that celebrate queer teens (and she’s ALL ABOUT happy endings).

If you love The Raven Cycle, The Fifth Season, Six of Crows, Trail of Lightning or anything by Terry Pratchett–you might like the kind of stories Trace creates.

When she’s not adding to her massive TBR pile, she can sometimes be heard on Spokane Public Radio as the producer & co-host of the lighthearted science and history podcast called Brain Junk.

Trace lives a life of organized chaos in Spokane with a gardening crazed chemist, one kid who’s still at home, several chickens, three cats, and a darling chocolate lab named Ruby.

Her first YA novel, THE NAMES WE TAKE, came out in 2020.

Illustration Moderator, Jessica Linn Evans

Jessica Linn Evans is an author-illustrator and SCBWI member. Her illustrations are rendered with traditional media including watercolor, graphite, and ink.
