This event consists of 2 workshops. The first is a crash course for writers and illustrators interested in creating a web presence. The second workshop will focus on building a personal brand and connecting to your ideal readers. You can attend one or both workshops for one low price.

For SCBWI members unable to attend this Spokane event, you can purchase a recording of the Building your Personal Brand webinar. The recording will be available from April 13-30.


Creating a Web Presence 1:00 – 2:15

If you’re an aspiring author and/or illustrator, you’ve probably spent time wondering if you should have a website, a blog, or a twitter account. The internet can be a great place to connect with a larger community, but where should you start?

In this beginner-level crash course on creating a web presence, our Illustrator Coordinator, Kyle Cossairt, will discuss the importance of having a landing page and share his tips for creating a website. Regional Advisor, Rachel Hamby, will lead a discussion on social media. Together we’ll talk about blogs, twitter hashtags, Facebook groups, and your SCBWI profile page.

Participants will come away with a fresh perspective on social media with clear ideas on how to get noticed online by contributing to the children’s book community.


If you are attending the 2nd workshop only, please arrive by 2:15 for check-in. The webinar will begin promptly at 2:30. Please wait outside the conference room if you arrive prior to check-in.

Oanh Jordan is a brand strategist and the founder of Tiny Triumph Co., a literary marketing consulting firm in Portland, OR. With a deep connection to the children’s literary world through countless story times with her mommy friends and MIL, who served as an elementary school librarian for over 20 years, Oanh became interested in helping literary creatives navigate the world of book marketing. She spent over 10 years as a Marketing & Sales Director for a prestigious engineering firm before making the decision to spend time at home with her littles. She has been teaching children’s lit authors and illustrators how to stand out, attract their ideal readers, and sell more books by building a personal brand for the past 3 years.
